FEES AND COSTS

Fees and Costs

Attorneys’ fees and costs can vary widely depending on the amount of legal assistance that you need. We do accept payment plans and credit
card payments via PayPal.

If your case is not complex and you are willing to be self-represented with an attorney preparing the court paperwork for you and providing you with instructions on how to proceed, flat fees can range from $250.00 - $800.00 for such cases. When there are children, there is more paperwork involved, so even if issues regarding the children are settled, there is still a greater cost to complete this additional paperwork. Because you are self-represented and I don’t need to appear in court, I can handle such cases in any Missouri or Kansas county.

For any type of case that requires filing an action with the court, you will have to pay a court filing fee of approximately $150.00- $200.00 depending on the county in which your case is filed. These fees change often.

The more you and your spouse can agree upon and the more cooperative you are with one another and with the attorneys and other professionals involved, the lower the total costs will be.

Mediation services (where I act as a neutral mediator to help you and your partner reach an agreement) start at $150.00 per hour. These services
include in person meetings as well as drafting of legal documents and assistance with filing. Your mediator does not attend court with you.

Uncontested case legal representation (where I am the attorney for one party and the other party is self-represented) starts at $200.00 per hour.
Such representation is a good fit for couples who agree on most aspects of their case but want an attorney to draft the paperwork and attend court hearings with them.

Collaborative law services (each party has their own attorney but sign an agreement not to litigate the case) start at $250.00 per hour. Please see the Collaborative Law Professionals of Greater Kansas City website for more information: www.collablawmo.com

Some courts require a personal appearance by an attorney to finalize the case, even when everything is settled, others do not. This can add to the total cost because the attorney has to travel to the courthouse in person and wait for the case to be called. I also offer unbundled legal services or “limited scope” representation where I am not your attorney of record, but I can help you with one or several distinct aspects of your case such as:
  • Calculating child support worksheets
  • Drafting responsive pleadings if you have been served with court paperwork
  • Attending hearings with you
  • Reviewing and editing court documents you have prepared yourself
  • Providing a second opinion on a case already in progress

Please contact me for fees and additional details for these services.
